About Xylo Aria

Xylo Aria is an artist, producer and also the founder of Music Production for Women. 

Having faced her own challenges in learning to produce music in a heavily male dominated environment and dealing with the related struggled on laregely relying on others to bring her music to fruition, she is hugely passionate about empowering other women to get out of the state of feeling stuck in music and allowing them to take control of their craft. 

Her efforts have been recognised in 2020 where she was named as a top 50 East London Innovator and also included in the 2020 She Said So Alt Power list.

To date Xylo has helped hundreds of women all over the world get over their fears of taking their first steps into production and helped other excel by giving them the confidence that they can definitely do it!

Xylo has also run multiple talks and workshops in the area of production and overcoming fear in starting new ventures to schools and other audiences of up to 400 people.

About the course
Learn to produce music from the very basics
If you've wanted to learn how to produce music but have found the process confusing or overwhelming, we know how you feel! But we also know that once you start to learn with the right content for you, in the right supportive environment, it is very much possible for you to take charge and start producing your own music. Our previous students have done just that!

So if you want to start taking control and turning the ideas in your head into a reality without relying on others, join our Class of 2021! We have designed this 12 week, self-paced course, based on Ableton Live which you will be starting with a cohort of like minded musicians. The course will be a combination of online content that you can work through at your own pace, live catch up sessions where you can ask questions and clarify any doubts and also a masterclass at the end to round up your knowledge. 

Througout the course, you will be within an interactive and encouraging environment of students and facilitators which you can turn to for help and support while also having access to Xylo Aria and the MPW team to ask any questions.

This will be an online course unlike any other you have attended and will be extremely interactive and practical, where you will meet new people, join interesting conversations and be able to learn in a kind and encouraging environment. You will also get a free version of Ableton Live Intro, as well as 40% off Ableton Live Suite!

COURSE OUTLINE

The course will be conducted over 12 weeks and will be a combination of online content that you can work through at your own pace, while keeping to our rough timelines and also group catch up sessions where you can interact with your fellow students and ask any questions to the MPW facilitators. We recommend setting aside 3-4 hours per module (2 weeks) of the course.

By purchasing this course you will have lifetime access to the course content and will also be provided with detailed slides of the content for your reference when putting what you learn into practice. The 12 weeks will be set out as follows:

Week 1 & 2 - Creating Drums

  • Understand how to create interesting drum patterns using custom drum racks and samples
  • ​Learn how to create your own custom drum racks and manipulate sounds 
  • ​Learn how to give your drums movement and a human feel

Week 3 & 4 - Using Synthesizers

  • Understand the different types of synthesis available and the basics of how they work
  • ​Learn the controls often found on many digital and analog synths 
  • ​Learn how to manipulate the synthesizers to create the perfect sound for your track
GROUP CATCH UP CALL

Week 5 & 6 - Sampling

  • Learn the basics of how sampling works and the tools available to manipulate samples in your track
  • Learn how to manipulate the sounds you're sampling to fit your track
  • Learn how Ableton's warp function can be used to create interesting effects on your samples

Group Assignment 

Weeks 7 & 8 - Audio Effects

  • Understand what audio effects are and how they can be used in your production
  • Understand audio routing and how return tracks work in the context of audio effects
  • Learn how to use effect automation to create movement within your track
GROUP CATCH UP CALL

Weeks 9 & 10 - Recording 

  • Understand what you need to create a great sounding recording and how to use your set up 
  • Learn the basics of processing your recording with a focus on vocal processing
  • Understand what EQ and Compression is and how they can help your recording

Weeks 11 & 12 - Mixing

  • Understand what Mixing is and what its role is in the music creation process
  • Learn the basic tools that are available to you to mix your track and how they are used in a mix
  • Learn how to set up your mixing project to achieve a successful workflow and therefore mix
